AMA Hall of Famer Bessie B. Stringfield

We’d like to take a moment to recognize a very special lady in motorcycle and United States history! Bessie B. Stringfield, A.K.A. “The Motorcycle Queen of Miami”, and also an American Motorcyclist Association Hall of Famer (inducted in 2002), was not only a U.S. Military Motorcycle Dispatch Rider, she also rode cross-country solo, 8 times! Talk about a true motorcyclist! Because February is also Black History Month, we thought it’d be a great idea, for many sentimental reasons, to tell people about her story!

Visit the link below to read about the amazing Bessie:

Mardi Gras Time!

Did you know that Mardi Gras is only a small part of a huge celebration?! “Carnival”, which is loosely translated from Latin as “farewell to flesh,” is the season of merriment that begins in New Orleans each year on January 6, the Twelfth Night feast of the Epiphany (the day the three kings visited the Christ Child) and lasts until Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras, which in French means Fat Tuesday, is the climax of the Carnival season. It reflects the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. The season of Carnival, and even Mardi Gras, are actually all celebrated differently from country to country, and city to city.

Well, here at Avalanche Harley-Davidson, we like to celebrate it our own way! We’ll have our Fat Thursday Indoor Bike Night on February 18th from 5pm-8pm. Beads will be given out to everyone, and we’ll be playing fun games for prizes! We’ll also have some traditional King Cakes! If you find a toy baby in your slice of cake, you win a gift card to our store! NoNo’s Cafe will be serving New Orleans style meals for $5, our Harley Angels will be selling $1 beers, and everyone will get another free chance to win our $1,000 gift card give away!! So get your masks and your party outfits ready! We can’t wait for the fun!

Happy Holidays!

What a blast the holidays have been!! We took some time to go around the shop and find out what some of our employees did for Christmas and what they’ve got planned for their new year’s resolutions! Here’s what we found out:

Art (Shipping and receiving): stayed home, ate, drank, and was merry! His resolutions are to live longer and have more fun! He says he doesn’t usually make resolutions though, because he’s constantly reflecting and refreshing. He lives by the motto, “Don’t worry, Be happ!”

Eric (Service): went to Montrose to get back to his roots and visit family. Eric’s resolution is to be an, overall, more accepting person in 2016 and beyond!

Chad (Service): hung out with family, took care of the horses, and cooked a feast! His new year’s resolution is to have a Harley by 2017!

Dea (MotorClothes): spent time with family, and says she doesn’t do the “New year, new me” thing – she prefers to always be improving!

Joe (Parts): spent time with his family, was stoked about getting to hang out with the grandkids! He says his resolution is to keep on keepin’ on!

Todd (Fit Specialist): hung out with the girlfriend’s family and a couple of friends, cooked a nice dinner, and stayed inside, where it was nice and cozy!

Grant (Parts): says he just did the usual family stuff this Christmas, and doesn’t have any resolutions, because he, too, likes to always be improving!

Gabby (Receptionist): slept all day on Christmas! She says she’s decided her new year’s resolution will be to sleep more too!!

Jeff (Fit Specialist): says he hung out with his boys on Christmas and plans to spend more time behind bars (riding his Harley) next year!

Savannah (Receptionis): cooked dinner with her mom for Christmas, and plans to create more art next year!!

Bryan (Fit Specialist): went to Tulsa to see his family for Christmas! He says he doesn’t have a specific resolution, but his plan is to step his game up overall!

Pete (Fit Specialist): had a nice dinner with his mom and is looking forward to celebrating again, this time, with his son! He says his resolution is to stop watching so much tv!

Ryan (General Manager): spent Christmas at the ranch, ate delicious food, and even went for a hayride! His resolution is to eat healthier!

Kevin (Desk Manager): spent Christmas assembling his daughter’s new toys! He says his resolution is to lose some weight!

Harry (General Sales Manager): wpent time with the family and cooked breakfast! His resolution is to get to his ideal weight, too!

Ashley (Desk Assistant): made chicken parmesan for her dad for Christmas, and her resolution is to become a better leader – personally and professionally!

We hope you all had a fantastic Chrsitmas!! Be safe celebrating the coming new year, and have fun!!

‘Tis The Season Of Giving

We know there’s a lot of gift giving going on right now, especially because we’re quickly approaching the holiday season, and we’d like to remind everyone that Harley-Davidson has teamed up with Wouned Warrior Project, to join efforts in raising money to support wounded veterans and their families.

Founded in 2003, the 501(c)3 non-profit organization now has over 20 programs operating, and as described in wikipedia, are broken down into 4 categories: Body, Mind, Economic Empowerment, and Engagement. The Body section of the programs focus on “physical health and wellness”, while the Mind section guides our warriors through the “combat stress recovery program”. Economic Empowerment “helps members meet their educational goals and aim to support their personal health and wellness, mental health and career development”, and finally, Engagement, through “the Alumni program provides long-term support and camaraderie for wounded veterans through events, discounted services and an online community.”

Now through January 11th, 2016, stop in and make a contrubtion to Wounded Warrior Project with any of our cashiers! Next to the Parts and Accessories counter, pick up a sticker showing you’ve made an effort to help out the great cause,

WWP 2

and write your name on a dog tag slip so we can hang it on the wall and show off how supportive our community is of our veterans.

WWP 1

They’ve proudly served our country, and Wounded Warrior Project offers the opportunity for us to reciprocate. Happy holidays, from the Avalanche Harley-Davidson family to yours!
