AMA Hall of Famer Bessie B. Stringfield

We’d like to take a moment to recognize a very special lady in motorcycle and United States history! Bessie B. Stringfield, A.K.A. “The Motorcycle Queen of Miami”, and also an American Motorcyclist Association Hall of Famer (inducted in 2002), was not only a U.S. Military Motorcycle Dispatch Rider, she also rode cross-country solo, 8 times! Talk about a true motorcyclist! Because February is also Black History Month, we thought it’d be a great idea, for many sentimental reasons, to tell people about her story!

Visit the link below to read about the amazing Bessie:

For more info. on the history of Black History Month, here’s another good link:

Do you know the average life of a helmet? DOT says they should be replaced every 3-5 years, unless they experience impact. A helmet is designed for just ONE impact, so even if there aren’t any scratches or damages done to the outside, it should still be replaced right away.

If you have the option to lock your helmet onto your bike while you’re parked, not only will you reduce the risk of theft, you’ll also reduce the risk of dropping it!

Stop by and see us! Our MotorClothes Associates are prepared with knowledge and tips to help you keep your noggin safe while you’re traveling the open road. Find your perfect fit, and style for that matter, with awesome features to help you stay prepared for any climate.

Happy Check Your Helmet Month!!

The sherrif’s office dedicated a blog to remembering Sgt. Dave Baldwin: #RememberBaldwin

The sherrif’s office dedicated a blog to remembering Sgt. Dave Baldwin: #RememberBaldwin

We were all shocked and saddened to hear about Sgt. Dave Baldwin, who did so much for the community. He was a great friend, and one of the coolest, most laid back guys we had the pleasure of knowing. He was the very first person to buy a bike when we opened as Avalanche Harley-Davidson, and used to hang out with us while he got service work done on his bike. He is greatly missed, and will be forever in our hearts.

Happy New Year

It’s that time of year when people start to make new goals to help bring in the New Year! We went around the dealership to find out what some of the staff has planned for 2014!

Kevin F. from the Motorcycle Dept. says his goal is to work on his budget. He says we can ask him how it went at the end of the year, and if he has any money in his pocket, he’ll have been successful.

Chris B. says his goal is to better balance his business, his family, and his play time.

The MotorClothes ladies collectively decided they want to perfect their “Bernie” dance! If you don’t know what that is, you’ve got to look it up! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM1dEW2Lja4)

Joe from parts says his goal is to stay alive – “Ah ah ah ah, stay alive, stay alive!”

Shane says he’d like to take his family on a vacation.

Kalani says she’d like to open a booth to start selling holistic skin and other beauty care products on the side.

Sid, the newest guy in the Service Department set a goal to quit smoking

and, I would like to do more yoga.

We wish you luck on reaching your goals this year, no matter how crazy they may seem! And so, we’ll end this post with a quote that might give you some encouragement:

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.– HENRY STANLEY HASKINS

Happy 2014!

Avalanche’s very own Mrs. Adrienne Cook

In the summer of 2013, Adrienne, or as some of us call her “mama duck”, became a member of the Avalanche Harley-Davidson family. Don’t ask how she got her nick name, none of us know either…

Her family has been very supportive of her by attending a lot of the events that occur on and off site at the dealership.

One gentleman who came to almost every event was her boyfriend at the time, and is now her husband Christopher!

The two were wed this fall at Bear Creek Lake Park, shortly after the flood that struck Colorado.

The groom and his men rode up to the wedding on their Harley Davidson motorcycles, and lined them up on the side of the ceremonial cite like horses at a stable.

After exchanging their vows and saying “I DO” the two shared a passionate kiss and began celebrating with friends and family.

Adrienne’s step read an original poem he dedicated to her, and then they cut the cake!! Even a few members of the Avalanche Harley-Davidson staff were able to join the celebration!!

Talk about a fairy tale ending…. The two were even able to ride off into the sunset together on his Harley to their honeymoon!!

Camaraderie – There’s a lot of it going on. We all know, of course, that there’s power in numbers, and even the lone wolf will relate to others in given circumstances. We’ve seen a ton of it here at the dealership, especially during the summer when groups of riders pulled up together during their travels.

As they shopped or waited to get their services done, folks got to know one another – guests and staff alike. Complete strangers chatted about their riding experiences, and told stories of danger, fun, and excitement. Ride recommendations were made, warnings were given, and lessons learned were shared.

We were extremely busy in the couple of weeks leading up to Sturgis!  We got to meet riders from all over the country. And then the World Wide Dealer Show came to Denver where we got to meet people from France, Germany, Whales, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, and many more countries all over the world.

Our HOG chapter is a great example of people from all different walks of life and backgrounds coming together for the love of riding, building life-long relationships, and making a difference in our community. It’s no secret that we all get caught up in the day to day tasks that life demands, like work, running errands, and paying bills. So, it’s nice to be able to have an outlet, and a place to go, a shoulder to lean on, and a friend to ride with. That’s what this HOG chapter has brought to our dealership.

We’ve made a ton of friends so far, and continue to do so as we carry on our journey of helping people reach their goal of riding or customizing their bikes. The memories made along the way are priceless, and their significance is something felt differently by each individual.

There’s no denying that in the end, it’s all about the experience!
